About Stringlight

Made for the moment music starts to click.

Stringlight is a free guitar learning and practice app for beginners, returning players, teachers, students, singers, songwriters, and experienced guitarists. Tune up, learn the fretboard, explore chords and scales, build a backing rhythm, or discover your electric guitar sound—all in one welcoming space.

Different stages. Same love of music.

Your next step sounds like you.

Three imagined players. Three ways to make Stringlight part of your practice.

My first few notes

“I don’t need to know everything. Just what to try next.”

I can tune up, hear what a chord should sound like, and find my way around the fretboard one note at a time. The Learn mode starts with open strings, so I have somewhere simple to begin—and little wins to keep me picking up my guitar.

Beyond familiar shapes

“I know a few songs. Now I want to understand what makes them work.”

Scales give me new paths to explore, the Circle of Fifths helps me connect chords, and the metronome keeps my timing honest. I can practise a progression, challenge my fretboard knowledge, and turn the shapes I know into more musical choices.

Always something to explore

“Experience doesn’t end practice. It gives practice a purpose.”

I can warm up with scales, sketch chord-and-rhythm accompaniment for vocal rehearsal, and shape a sound with pedals and an amp. The three-track looper helps me layer an idea; exporting my arrangement, pedal setup, or loop mix means I can return to it later. Useful tools, ready when an idea arrives.

Illustrated personas, not customer testimonials. Wherever you are in your journey, there’s room to grow.

01

Hear and see progress

Connect a guitar through a Focusrite or another audio interface, or use a microphone. The Audio setup assistant checks your signal and background noise. Note and chord feedback helps your ears and hands learn together, while the Practice progress page brings saved lessons and personal bests into view.

02

Practise without pressure

Start with open strings, grow through fretboard lessons, or explore common and exotic scales by musical style. Hear open and barre chords, build timing with the metronome, and tap the Circle of Fifths segments to connect keys and chord families. Learn modes and games give you different ways to practise at your own pace.

03

Keep music accessible

The core experience is free because useful music education should be available to anyone with a guitar. Responsive layouts work on phones, tablets, and computers, with vertical fretboards on smaller screens. No account is needed to start practising.

04

Find your own sound

Explore 18 stompbox effects, a six-band equalizer, five amp voicings, and cabinet simulation. Start with a familiar-style preset, make it yours, then export your settings to keep or share. With wired headphones and a suitable input, the three-track loop station lets you layer phrases and export a WAV mix.

05

Give your voice a backing band

Turn strumming arrows into a song accompaniment: assign chords, strokes, percussion, and bass or melodic instrument sounds. Mix rhythmic subdivisions, edit the order, and rehearse while it plays. Save your arrangement as a file so your next singing session can begin where the idea left off.

06

Take practice with you

Install Stringlight as a web app where supported, or use it in your browser. Open Install app in the footer to check for Offline ready: the downloaded app is then available without a connection. Progress stays in this browser on this device—not in a cloud account—so export your creations and summaries before clearing site data.

Help it keep growing

If Stringlight helps you play one more song, it has done something worthwhile.

Your support helps cover hosting, testing, maintenance, and future improvements while keeping the app free for musicians everywhere. A coffee, a recommendation, or a thoughtful suggestion all help useful independent tools like this survive.
